Tell us about what you're doing with your life
Lisa is the Chief Human Resources Officer for Canterbury Court, a warm and loving Senior Living Community in Atlanta, Georgia, where she is honored to be of service every day to highly educated, deeply cultured, and extremely kind older adults. David is the Global Director of Sales Operations for AVAYA. Lisa and David have 2 daughters and sons-in-law, and three beautiful grandchildren. They say they are blessed to live 2 miles from their daughter, Marni, son-in-law Daniel, and three grandchildren in Atlanta (Micah – 4 ½, Noa – 2 ½, Annie – 3 weeks as of the writing of this blog post). Their daughter, Tammy and her new husband, Danny Rakita, live in the New Haven area, where Danny is a Professor of Robotics and Neuroscience at Yale. Lisa and David travel every chance they get, and have had the good fortune to travel extensively throughout Europe and Asia. Here is a picture of them in front of the Kinkakuji Temple in Kyoto, Japan. And here is a picture of them in front of the East Side Gallery (formerly part of the Berlin Wall) in Berlin.
We also enjoy trips up to the North Georgia Mountains. Here is a photo of most of our family enjoying a winter week in a cabin in Clayton, Georgia.
What is your favorite memory of your time at Cornell?
Lisa and David most fondly remember their service projects through Alpha Phi Omega, since it was through APO that they met and fell in love. They met when they they were setting up Mardi Gras at Robert Purcell Union their Junior Year (which was actually called North Campus Union in those days). David also remembers enjoying the Cornell hockey games with his fraternity brothers at Kappa Delta Rho.
Which Cornell classmates do you keep in touch with?
Debbi Brown Goldman ‘84; Jose Nieves ‘84; Lance Fortnow ‘85; Elizabeth Parrella ‘84; Brenda Klein ‘84; Hi-Dee Roeder ‘84; Stephanie Robinson ‘86. A fun fact is that Lisa and David had 24 Cornellians in attendance at their wedding in 1986. (see photo below).
What advice would you give to a student starting at Cornell this year?
David’s advice would be to try to spend a summer in Ithaca, when the academic pressure is less, and the campus is the most beautiful.
What does being a Cornell alumnus mean to you?
Being part of a network of deeply hard working, intellectual, community-oriented individuals working to improve the world.
What are you most looking forward to at Reunion 2024?
Lisa and David are most looking forward to connecting with old friends, re-exploring the beautiful campus where they first fell in love with each other, and visiting some of their favorite “date spots” like Stewart Park, Purity Ice Cream, Buttermilk Falls, and Treman Park.
